How can I induce breeding in clowns?

My tank is 38 gallons. The dimensions are 36x18x12. I currently have 35lbs of live rock and 40lbs of live sand.

Livestock
-------------------------------

Fish

-Mated pair of maroon clownfish

Coral

-Hammer
-Torch
-Frogspawn
-Candycane
-Bubble
-Pagoda
-Open Brain
-Mushroom

Inverts

-4'' BTA( this thing varies but it stays around this size)
-Snails
-2 anemone crabs
-Cleaner shrimp
-coral banded shrimp

I have thought about trying to raise some clownfish. If these are the only 2 fish in the tank, can it work? I wanted to try the natural way of raising clownfish. How can I induce spawning of my clowns? They are currently hosting the anemone so Im sure this could help. Will they lay the eggs by the anemone? If so, will the anemone crabs eat the eggs?

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

You can't. They've only been in there a few weeks right? Nothing good happens fast in a reef tank. Give them time.

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

All I have read so far is constant conditions, good nutrition, dont reaquascape, and patience. Maybe it will work!

Jason the ONLY thing that happens FAST in a reef tank is a CRASH!

you Rush it

you CRASH it!

We're dealing with NATURE here and it happens in it's own due time and for GOOD reasons.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

Lol. I agree Al. I rushed through my first reef(20 gallons) and it crashed horribly. I lost about $500 worth. Then I stopped for a while and restarted, the right way. Except I used TAP water. Im topping off with RO water now and using it in my SW changes.

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

H'mm let's see. If you picked my husband and I up and moved us to a new house with all new furniture and all new neighbors. Oh yeah and the walls are made of glass and this giant keeps staring at me and moving things around. Somehow I don't think the first thing on my mind would be to have a baby.
I have a pair of clowns with a bta that I have had for over 3 years with no breeding behaviour. They either will or won't and only time will tell.
This hobby takes patience and lots of it. Things happen in months and years not hours and days.

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

Ok. I understand. Maybe I will get lucky and they will actually breed sometime or another! I guess maybe I should not worry about breeding them now and just enjoy my tank. If they breed they breed. If they don't they just don't.

Re: How can I induce breeding in clowns?

the only way to induce breeding is in humans lol unless you have all the exspensive lab equip give it time dont want your tank to crash........

(artificial insimination) i think thats how you spell it lol but doesnt work to well on fish probably....
