Raising S.Erectus Seahorses!!

My friends in the city has had some fry for 8 weeks now and wants to let me try raising them! I have the setup already for them. They are about an inch long with their tails. I pick up the six of them saturday evening.

Here are some pics of my setup.

Re: Raising S.Erectus Seahorses!!

Bad news. My friend sent in one of his dead fry to a doctor friend of his and he found out it had a bacterial infection called vibriosis. He can't medicate them because they are too young. So no fry for me.

Re: Raising S.Erectus Seahorses!!

Just because the fry tested positive for vibrio does not mean they are doomed. Vibrio is very common in seahorses. Most are asymptomatic carriers and never ever have an outbreak. It is so common that most tanks will test positive for it.

When we had a guy doing necropsies for us about 65-70% tested postitive for it but only maybe 5-8% actually died from it.
