I have had clutches from 24-52. I use two males with my single female. She is a machine.

over time the egg number will increase probably. For the Urchin, is that epoxy on the body?

The product can be kept and stored at room temperature for many years, as long as the container is not opened. Once open, the product needs to be kept cool in the refrigerator and can be kept for up to 7 days, like the Baby Brine Shrimp you would have hatched yourself.

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

thanks guys!
yes the body of the Urchin is marine epoxy putty. Its a green tube with white on the inside and you knead it and it all turns white. I dont like it for mounting corals like it says, but for this it was perfect. Dried fast and sank like a rock when i put it in the water and is 100% reef safe

Most of my clutches are in the 30-35 range. My latest was 44. My largest was 52. I have not seen any increase in number of eggs as time goes by. It has been pretty consistent. I have noticed that if I catch the male and get him to release a few days early the clutches are larger with no additional die off once released. I have almost a 100% survival rate until around 6 weeks when I am needing to get them off the live baby brine and switced to prepared frozen foods. Then it is about 50/50 if they take to the non live foods.

I remove mine no longer then 22 days. Usually if I hold him in the net out of the water for just a bit he will spit them out in the net. Then I gently place the net in the holding tank to release Dad and the babies. Then I'll remove the Dad and place him in his own tank for a week or two so he can rest and eat. If I put him back in with the female she will try to breed with him again in just a few days. If you leave the male in with the babies he will gather them back up into his mouth.

If by chance the babies are released before they are fully developed, leave them alone. As long as there in a tank with minimal flow and no shrimp, crabs, or other fish they will be alright and continue to form into the baby cardinal. I had Dad spit out eggs with eyes and two days later all but 2 of the eggs had transformed.

I usually place Dad in the baby holding tank until about day 23 or 24 before I have him spit out the babies.

I just run a regular flourescent light over the baby tank.

I do not know of a way to visually distinguise males from females. I always place a new bangaii in with a proven male and if they fight, and they will almost immediately, then you know you have another male.

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

Well Day 10...Daddy moving to his new home today, I am soo afraid he will stress out and spit them, but I notice that he is starting to get aggressive with the other fish in the tank..so I think its better for him to move...
I will post pics soon...Wish me luck
