I know you can decapsulate eggs yourself using clorox but I choose not too.

Make sure you do NOT get the dried decapsulated eggs that are NON-HATCHING. I bought this thinking it was for hatching They do make great food though
Good point about the dried eggs. They are not what you want to buy. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

Hmm...well I am hoping I dont have an issue to worry about, but about 20 min ago, I watched the male rolling the eggs around, he spit one out..wow they are huge, but anyways,it was completely white..
Now after watching him for a bit closer, I noticed the ones that are still in there are not white, they are orangy, with a dark spots in them from what I can see...
Was he maybe spitting out dead one?..I sure hope this doesnt continue..

Thats what it sounds like, many animals know if the egg is good or not, by feel, weight, etc etc.....fish eggs should be that orangish color with a defined spot.

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

to hatch those do you just add them to the water or do you need a hatching station, or do they just eat the eggs?
sorry, i just have never dealt with that type of food.

Hey Tipp ..I sure hope thats what it is...I am keeping my fingers crossed that there arent to many more...

Snelly: AS far as I know you have to hatch them in a 2lt pop bottle cut in half with an airstone and water...I could be wrong..

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

Day 7:
Dad still holding..But mom just let a new batch of eggs go on the bottom..I think I need to get another male to pick up the slack for her...

AS for bbs, well I have heard both snelly..I heard that we dont need the decapsulated ones because the banggais are big enough when they are let go to eat it with no problems, and I have also been told we do need to use them..lol..
But, I ordered mine from Seahorse source like woody suggested..I just want to play it safe..
I have my new tank today, was out shopping..man its like shopping for a new baby..10 of this, a few of that..lmao..
I am so excited, but still nervous about daddy spitting that egg..hopefully that was it...

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

Day 8:
Well all is stil well, no change really...
I found those ready to eat bbs through my lfs, they ordered me 2 jars, they said they are perfect for what I need..so thats good..alot less work thats for sure, and less bubbling noise too...lol..They're pair just had babies, 15 days old..omg they are so adorable...I cant wait
I was reading in this months magazine, that Banggais are becoming extinct, they are being taken in high numbers, their population is down by 30% in their original location at Banggai Island..Thats crzy, we need more breeders, and more people to buy captive breeds of all species when available..
They have no chance of makin the numbers in the wild higher because the fry stick close to their parents, so they end up collected with the adults...Its such a shame...

Re: Bangaii Breeding..Here we go, We got Eggs..

Just get regular grade A brine shrimp eggs. I use them exclusively for my baby bangaii. I have never had one choke on the shells. I usually buy the 8oz. jar and it lasts about 3-4 months. The issue you will face is getting them off the live baby brine and onto prepared frozen foods. They will reach a size were they spend more energy eating the baby brine then the baby brine provide and they will starve. It is critical that you get them off the live foods around 5-6 weeks after being released. Do a couple of practice batches of baby brine so you are ready as soon as the baby bangaii are released.
