Re: Grow out system?

Yep, I love my skimmer

Here are some pics of my 'grow out system'. I am in the process of tacking up some 'curtains' to make it look better and to help with insulation a bit. I am using thick black canvas-like material. It helps keep the light's glare from bothering my eyest too...

Front side of the 10 x 20 gallon growout tanks. You can see the 29 gal anemone tank to the left...

Here is the back side and the sump

Re: Grow out system?

I wonder if you could find anything useful to do with all that skimmate..

very cool - and professional - project you have going on.

Did I miss something with the nem tank? all of a sudden im like "wow now she's filling her garage with other tanks while she's at it.. how the heck did she convine her hubby of that!?"

Re: Grow out system?

So how old are the fish in each of the compartments? Any new things added to your system? Maybe now that you have a majority of it set up... Could we see some pictures? I don't know about anyone else on here, but I'm a visual learner!...

Their ages range from 3 months to 2 weeks. This morning I have completed sorting the 1" babies by grade. I now have a tank just for normal & misbars, one for Grade B's, and another for Grade A's.

What type of pictures would you like? Plumbing? Lighting?

Re: Grow out system?

Okay....

The lighting system for the entire set up is a simple IceCap 660 electronic ballast and four T5 bulbs.

Internal overflows in each tank

EAch tank is drilled for a 1" bulkhead and fitted with a flexible 1" vinyl hose. The hose slips into a 2" drain pipe. The flexible vinyl hose allows removal of the tank if necessary.

The Iwaki 55RTL returns the water via 1" spaflex. Just before the outlet to each tank, the 1" pipe is reduced to 1/2" and controlled by a 1/2" ball valve. Reducing the pipe increases velocity of the water and help create flow through the tank. The flexible 1/2" spaflex allows the tank to be removed easily if needed.

Here is a photo of the 100 gallon sump, Octopus skimmer and Iwaki 55rtl return pump.

The 100 gallon sump has two 400 watt heaters, chaetomorpha algae and two clamp on lights - PAR38 Reflector 19 Watt / 5100K: Light Bulbs Etc, Inc.

Re: Grow out system?

So, after looking at this, this is my thought. Would it benefit to put small heaters inside the tanks too? It would seem to me that when the water reaches the tanks, it would have changed temperature a little. im guessing not enough to affect them though... I like your idea of using the filter padding as a noise reduction. Do you plan on putting anything else in your sump? Thank you for the pictures, it gave me ideas of how to make my return from my refugium and sump. How have the baby fish been? All of them still surviving?

Re: Grow out system?

That's such a MONSTER skimmer! Does it have the wet neck or is it the kind your turn? The Octo extreme line comes with the Wet neck and I'm not use to it. Very nice by the way! Is there any plans for propagating corals? O yeah I want a pair of those clowns
