Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

Every once in a while you can find them available from retail or internet dealers. Most of the time you have to keep your eyes open for people selling their personal pairs.
Or you can just buy two juveniles and let them pair off

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

Just curious...WHY are you in such a hurry to have a mated pair of clowns? Are you planning to start breeding them and raising fry? I hope you've done a BUNCH of reading on what's required to do this...It's not anything like breeding freshwater fish...MUCH more work involved...

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

I think I have seen some in liveaquaria's diver's den. Not sure which type but I seem to remember a mated pair of clowns as some point. Worth checking I suppose.
I'm with BoomerD though. Why? Generally if you get two juviniles they don't fight and are likely to become a pair in time.
I am happy that my 2 clarkis don't fight. They may pair up, they may not but as long as they get along I am happy.

You may want to PM Elmo18. He breeds clowns regularly.

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

Buying a mated pair of clowns will NOT guarentee they will breed. There are many more factors such as not being harrased by tank mates, water condition, water temp, over crowding, correct substrate to lay eggs on, consistant feeding, consistant light cycle & Im sure there are more. I also think it takes patience & it doesent appear you have it being you have asked the same basic questions over & over the last couple weeks but havent gotten the answer you want, now you want to buy a mated pair. just today you have asked(again) if your female darting at your male is a mating ritual If you read all the books you say you bought you would know the answer to that question. Im not trying to discourage you from asking questions at all but be patient & enjoy the clowns you have & the entire process of them pairing up & one day possibly mating. My clowns went through the aggression stage 1.5 years ago & are now all but inseperatble & still havent laid eggs. From what I have read it can take 2 years or more & maybe never.

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

I just posted 2 pics of my mated pair of maroons. She is the white and he is the gold banded. You can also see her boyfriend the purple tang; however, she was constantly moving my ricordias and blastos around, soooooo....she recently found a new home. I still have him. I would put the pics in this post, but too tired to figure out how to tonight. Lynn, I need a quick lesson

You will need to raise rotifers for the clownfish larvae. And phyto for the roti's.

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

I would wait to see if your clowns will pair up. Paired clownfish tend to be very expensive, and just because tey are a pair does not mean that they will breed. I bought two tiny percs. Its been two months and one is much larger and is geting dark black around her stripes. At first they fought but now the little one tries to court the big one. Its all about patience, just because the clowns dont pair up right away doesnt mean that they wont. Plus I have heard that rearing Clownfish fry takes TONS of time and commitment.

Re: where can you buy a mated pair of clowns?

I think the statements about time and committment should be enough to make one stop and think about what they may be trying to do. There is so much involved in all of this and like others said this takes patience, something that I feel some of us don't have enough of and I can hear, read, and feel the lack of and your frustration coming through the questions you are asking. No one is telling you not to pursue your dreams or your goals of mating clowns, they are telling you to SLOW DOWN, find all you can find out about them and let nature take its course. Finding / buying a pair will not ensure they will give you what you want. I used to be a licensed bird breeder and it wasn't just a matter of putting a male and female together with a nesting box to get babies. Yeah , I know those were birds, but the same rule follows, there was a lot of time, commitment, responsibility, and PATIENCE involved in the learning, preparation, and husbandry of such. Good luck in your pursuit.
