| Tunicate | new tank algae? I made a mistake when I first posted PH is 8.2 not 8.5 and all other testing shows nothing. I bought fully cured brazil LR and have been watching all kinds of cool things coming out of it. Now I am getting a mat of brown algae all over some of the rock! should I get some snails to take care of this? |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: new tank algae? A mat? hummm... sounds like cyanobacteria... It feeds on phosphates, a red spectrum lighting (old bulbs), nitrAtes, and low flow... soooo... in addition to sucking out the algae mats, add a phosphate sponge, check the age on your bulbs (if you got them used), keep the tank clean (vacuum the substrate if possible, and increase water flow. If you're not using ro/di water, check into either buying it for all water changes or getting your own unit. Tap water is great for nusiance algae ![]()
