Re: Skimmer

Does it work? Yes for a fish bowl MAYBE, Save your money and buy a nice one, don't buy cheap because that is what you are going to get. what are you putting it on then maybe we could help with a better choice. And also Welcome to R.S.

Re: Skimmer

I have a 29 gallon tank, nothing is in it right now just crushed coral/sand and water. I have a Penguin filter, kinda like this one http://www.lilviv.com/pets/fish/commtank/330fil1.jpg except I took off the bio wheels/filter lol. The crushed coral was really dusty so i rinsed it off but my tank is really clowdy I guess I will wait a few days for it to clear up and then add salt. So I really don't even need a protien skimmer yet I was just looking at them.

Re: Skimmer

There is no reason that you could not add salt now. just drop in a power head and let it mix. Ounce you add livestock to the tank you would want to mix the salt for a while 8 hrs or so outside the tank then add the SW. What kind of tankare you setting up? are you planing on adding LR? Look throught the product reviews here at protein skimmers there is some good info there. I think most people would recomend an aqua-c remora. They are very good HOT skimmer from what I have read I have never used one.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~
