75 gal reef tank six months old

My clown fish have just started going to the bottom of the tank and they look like they are attacking the bottom. Is this normal? They are eating well and otherwise seem very happy.

Congrats Jim, I think your clownfish are exhibiting spawning behavior!

Here's a slideshow I took of my tomato clown "doin' the dig"

Re: 75 gal reef tank six months old

Are they randomly attacking the bottom or the sand or are they chewing at the same spot?

If they are going after the same spot they are showing spawning behavior.

clownfish are so goofy.

My maroon regularly digs tunnels under the rocks. He has an anemone that he hosts in but still digs out tunnels and caves and can sometimes be found there. He's the only clown so I doubt it is spawning behaviour and he has done this since I got him.

I have a single clown who also goes to the bottom and hits the sand.
Every now and then I see a little sand storm back by the overflow.

Re: 75 gal reef tank six months old

I had a pair of yellow damsels make a nest and frequently spawn in my tank. They kicked my barnacle blenny out of his barnacle and took over.
