Question Spider web

Wish I had a good image , but on one of my LR I have a gray/green
web-like growth. I've broken into it and it's like a spider web or cocoon
material and nothing is in it, visibly...but it keeps returning.
Are any reef creatures known to create a web like this?
The only new thing I've noticed recently in the reef are hair worms
(*like spaghetti but yellow)

just wondering what the heck it could be

Re: Spider web

I once had a wrasse that made a cocoon to sleep in every night. I believe there are other fish that do also, but since this is something new, probably not what is doing it in your tank.

Re: Spider web

Hmmm... the webs looks more gray than that-almost like a dust bunny.
I am going to do my water/filter change today with some dusting-I'll try to obtain a good snapshot.
Thanks!

Re: Spider web

I was gonna say what Gussy said- how old is your live rock? If less than a few months, very well could be decaying sponge.

Re: Spider web

Doing a search for WEBS, I found this thread... I have a question for all of ya... On my clam shell I believe I have a big vermatid snail... The web completally covers the top of the clam at times... The clam will open and close open and close, I believe trying to remove the web.. One good thing I have noticed though is the web collects food and Im hoping the clam will than get more food.

Main question is,.. Is this stressful or harmful to the clam? Should I keep removing the web or let it be? My clam is doing so well.. I hate to lose it to a darn snail.... Thanks all...

Re: Spider web

I know they're considered to be "irritaters" of zoanthids, and I'd suspect that it does the same to the clam. If it were me, I'd remove the snail.
