Talking Found a new Critter last night!

Hey RS!

I found a new critter just strolling on my live rock about Two in the morning,
( ok...I was sitting up with a little flashlight trying to see what I could see) it's a small sea urchin about an inch, I'll post a pic of it as soon as I get a chance to see it again...it's hiding in the yellow polyps rock...Is it a good or bad critter?

I have a buddy who's been coming by on the weekend to check out my tanks progress and he and his wife are going to get a tank this weekend...LOLOLOL...after he called me crazy for starting mine.
OH...BTW...Did I say How much I absolutely love this Group?!!

Yea if you can post a picture that will help us all for sure. Some urchins are good some are bad. If you have one that eats algae you are fine.

Cheers!

Re: Found a new Critter last night!

I love looking at the tank well after lights out. Very cool time to take an up close survey. We keep a flashlight with a red lense in the stand. When we have overnight guests I always encourage them to take a look if/when they get up in the middle of the night.

I don't know the answer to your question but I can relate to staying up late at night looking into my new tank with a flashlight. I truely love my new hobby. I'm hoping to have my gallery pictures up soon.

Re: Found a new Critter last night!

Freddie I too enjoy watching the night critters in my aquarium once the light goes out!! It's like a whole new world in the dark

Try to get a pic of the urchin if you can. There are many different varieties.

Ilook at my tank at night everytime I go past it. Certain things you only see at night.

That was a good one Witfull! There are little moon beam lights but it's not bright enough to see anything...I'm headed to WALMART tomorrow!

I have a question of you all...I want to raise the SG in my tank is it best to add the water to the sump or the top of the tank?

If you can I would drip it into the sump slowly, or add very little at a time. You will have to use water at a pretty high SG to make a change in the tank water. I would not try to raise over .001 sg in a day. What ever you do, do it slowly.

Re: Found a new Critter last night!

Meet Rufus. He's a long-spined urchin that came as a tiny hitchhiker on some gulf-view live rock. Harmless and quite lovable, he's my wife's favorite tank critter.
