Re: green water need help

It sounds like an algae bloom. Has anything changed lately? Is it getting sunlight naturally?

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: green water need help

Also I'd stop adding chemicals to the tank and just work on the root cause and not the problems/symptoms of the root.

Did you add anything new to the tank in the last few weeks at all?

How much flow do you have?

What type of filtration?

What do you feed with in your tank?

I know that's a lot of questions but the more we know about your system the more we can help you

Re: green water need help

Thanks, Sounds like a filtration problem.. Does your skimmer work good? I have used a diatom filter in the past that will clear the water up in a short time. Sometimes pet stores will rent them out, Other wise try running some carbon through your filters.. Diatom Filters are amazing if you can get one..

Re: green water need help

You said that your LFS said your parameters were 'OK'. Did you write down what they all were? Do you know what your Phosphates are at?

I would continue to do waterchanges, stop adding chemicals, and see if you can get ahold of a diatom filter like Vicki mentioned.

Just on a side note, brine shrimp is slim to none for nutrition for your fish, I would change up their diet a little. And feed less too, I only feed every 3 days, I learned in the beginning that feeding daily leads to lots of algae breakouts.

Re: green water need help

Yep That is the same one I have... Just a note , these filters are only to be used on the tank once every 3-6 months... It is a very good water clarifier and can remove to much from the water if used to often... But I know it will clear up your green water.. I would ask your pet store first.. It will only take a few hours and it is a one time use... U may not need it again..

Re: green water need help

That looks like a good Filter. Just keep in mind it's a use & remove item. Not something you leave hooked up all the time.

How long have the 3 clowns been in the tank?

I agree with everything above:

Low flow.. need more movement in the tank. I have 1x 1800gph pump, 2x1200gph pumps in my 90g tank and want more.

Over Feeding That's a lot of food for what you've noted as in the tank. That's more than I feed a fully stocked tank with many more times fish than you have.

Just take it slow and make mild adjustments to your system and don't try adding any more chemicals to it. It will work itself out over time.

Hang in there
