| Tunicate | Tank hunting today. I'll be going out today to a few local fish stores to see what kind of tanks they have to offer. Probly wont purchase a tank today, but ya never know. So far i have been thinking about a oceanic 29gal bio cube for my first tank. If any has any info good or bad on the Bio cube i would love to read it. Thanks again. |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Tank hunting today. "Cubes" in general are very popular. They offer a beginner what's common called (AIO) All-In-One kit. I have TWO of those myself. But it has it's limitations.. #1 Size... for your first tank you want MORE instead of less.. the more water you can afford the better your chances are of initial success.. the added water volume makes "things" happen slower allowing you more time to catch and correct them #2 From the factory they are a "Compromise" in many respects. The lighting is "OK" for starters but most (including Myself) want to upgrade right off the bat for better lights, filters, pumps etc #3 due to size and design you're limited in accessories and upgrades... this adds a LOT to the cost of normal upgrades So think long and hard how you want to approach this... honestly for your first tank your odds are MUCH better with a standard 55ish tank with your own lights, filters, and pumps. Good luck and HAPPY HUNTING ![]()

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Tank hunting today. Bio cube seems to be good for an all in one nanp but be sure that is what you want. Larger tanks are a lot easier to care for. Even if you want a smaller tank it is often better to get a standard small tank and add your own equipment. It may not be such a tidy all in one but you can have the equipment you want.

| Sea Pen | Re: Tank hunting today. I agree with Al. My first tank was a 29 and it was hard to keep up with changing levels, although I didn't realize it at the time. A larger tank will give you more of a buffer while learning about chemistry and what affects what. Also, whatever you decide, ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS HERE before asking a dealer at your LFS. You will likely get better (and different) answers here. Good luck!

| Dancing Mandarins | Re: Tank hunting today. Ditto with all of the above. If you are really interested in a tank, ask Jack. If he can get it cheaper for you he will. If not, he will let you know. Maybe I am a little biased here. What do you think folks?

| Tunicate | Re: Tank hunting today. Thanks for the info guys. Yeah todays hunting was just to my one and only lfs. It really bites living in such a small town, so tomorrow im planning a 2 hour drive to Ashland to check out a place there. You guys might know this place called Berts pet center. I belive he also carries the bio cubes so i can get an up close look at one. Will post my finding tomorrow after the trip. ![]() |
