| Tunicate | Question on moving a tank I used to have a 55 gallon sw tank that I put alot of money into and one day i came home and the whole hows smelled like sulfer and everything was dead. I gave up after that. recently I have been offered a 56 gallon tall established sw /coral tank with everything included for very cheap. The only thing is I have to drive 2 hours to get it. How should I go about moving this and getting it home without disturbing it? |

| Serpent Star | Re: Question on moving a tank Get some big rubbermaid tubs or ice chests and put everything in them securely. Get some new water made up at your house ready for when you get back. There's more to it that that, but do it quick!

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: Question on moving a tank What is the weather like in you area? If it's super hot, you can get a bag of ice and float ziploc baggies of ice to keep the water cool. You can buy a power inverter to plug into your cigarette lighter to power some airpumps to aerate the water or battery powered airpumps. Like stated already, have some extra water prepared at the destination. I didn't move that far, but I used 5 gallon buckets. Put rocks by themselves, corals by themselves, fish by themselves and covered everything with water. Drained the water down to the top of the sand and moved it that way. It was a 55g. Anything larger and I would probably remove the sand because of weight and possible stress on the glass.

| Sea Pen | Re: Question on moving a tank Be prepared for a LONG day. I think that's the one thing I wasn't expecting when I moved my 75. It took FOREVER. Plenty of rubbermaid/plastic containers and new water (depending on how much you plan to spill!). Just try to keep the water moving as much as possible. If there will be an extended period once you get it to your destination before you have it in your tank, put powerheads in all the containers with water...especially the containers with LR in them.
