DKH drop

I am having a really hard time keeping my dkh at 12-14. I'm having to add Seachem reef carbonate daily. I'll get it to 12 and the next day its at 8. Is this ok? Or am I headed for disaster. THANKS

Re: DKH drop

14 is very high!
A dKH of 7-11 is acceptable.
You may be having a calcium precipitation event when you dose that much alk.

What test kits are you using?

Your magnesium is a a bit low also so you may want to supplement it.

Re: DKH drop

Usually 12 is the high end, 8-12 is the range. I use baked baking soda which wiil raise PH also, normal unbaked baking soda will raise Alk and lower PH.

Re: DKH drop

REALLY! I thought 12-14 was ideal for a reef. So 8 0r 9 is good?

Re: DKH drop

My mag is a whole different story! If my cal. is 450-480 my mag. is low, and vise versa. Can I safely add magnesium daily also?

Yes. Please use this Reef Chemistry calculator to know exactly how much of which product to add:

Re: DKH drop

If Mg is low it is hard to get Ca up and keep it up. With Ca that high I would raise to Alk to 10.
