acceptable new tankmate?

Hi,

I need some input for a new tankmate. I want a BLUE colored fish to balance out the color in my tank, but it has to be compatible with the following tankmates, in my 46g.

1. lemonpeel dwarf angel
2. blood red fire shrimp
3. orange linckia star
4. percula clown
5. royal gramma basslet
6. purple tipped condylactis

Please make your suggestions!

Thanks,
Amber

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

What is your lighting? If you have strong lighting and stable parameters how about a clam? That's about the only thing that comes to mine in blue that would fit your tank. Maybe someone else will think of something. I wouldn't put a hippo in that tank. Just look at the pics of mine and realize it is only about half grown. It is quickly outgrowing my 6ft 125g tank. Soon all of my tangs will have to go. They have just grown too big for my tank. They need an 8-10ft tank to really have enough room once grown.

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Thank you all for your ideas... Jake, i followed your link for the blue assessor and it is BEAUTIFUL, but its $90.00. Whoa, too much for a newbie to spend, plus they are very rare/hard to find. I cant have a hippo/regal tang, tanks too small.... Lynn the clam is an AWESOME idea!!! BUT will my angel attack it? It has nipped my starfish a few times already. (my lighting is in the middle of an upgrade - going to CF 196w dual actinic and a 50/50) Do you think that would be enough?

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Stay away from the cleaner wrasse. They are better left in the ocean so they can do the job they need to do. They vary rarely live very long in captivity since not enough is known about their feeding habits.
Unfortunately that is not enough light for a clam. They need very strong lighting to thrive. Hmm back to thinking about a blue fish.
Blue is just a tough color. I think the the tang is the only blue I have is my tank.
