Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Its called TLC.. $20 a bottle. It worked wonders for me.. My tank cycled with-in 5 days after I added this product... It even says on the bottle will cycle in 3-7 days. My ammonia never spiked past .25

TLC made by Aquatic BioControl out of Westlake Ohio

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

I would like to chime in even though i am just a beginer at the reefing thing. I was cruising online today for some polyps and found these! :

They are a beautiful blue color and even though not a fish I think would look wonderful in a tank. i realy want some. Zoas dont require super good lighting, my green ones are under PC and are fine.

I didn't even think of that. Great suggestion. You could also go with some mushrooms. You can find them in brilliant blues and that would add the splash of color you are looking for. They are easy to keep and don't require much light. The zoas are also a great idea I just wanted to throw out another.

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

GREAT IDEA!! but will my lemonpeel hurt them? .... Sadly my orange linckia was killed by my lemonpeel angel last night. The angel had been picking at it every now and then, so I guess it stressed it enough. My anemone has found its permanent home it appears, and thank god its to the far side of the tank

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Angels are certainly known to pick at corals. That is why they are not considered "reef safe". With that said I have never heard of them going after shrooms. They seem to like LPS better. It is certainly possible they will go for the shrooms, I have just not heard of it.

ooooooooo! Yeah. Blue mushrooms. Those a very pretty too. I have never seen any at my LFS's they only have the typical red-ish purple-ish ones, I need to get them online from someone.

Sorry to hear about your fish loss, I very much dislike losing fish.

Edit: I meant your invert! Not a fish but still a sad loss, I lost a snail once and I was sad to pull him out.

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

your right CMG, a loss is a loss. especially when you lose one because of bullying. Makes me a little cold shouldered towards my angel, but a valuable lesson learned. Also I read somewhere that zoanthids sting. I think that should discourage my angel from nipping

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

You dont want to touch them because they are toxic and can cause you to go to the emergency room.

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Reef Goddess had some a while ago. She had turquoise and true blue.
Now I can't find her on the sponsor page. Something must have happened. I'll look around and see what I can find.

Re: acceptable new tankmate?

Amber,
I was told the same thing about the zoas, however we met a Marine Biologist on the weekend at one of the local fish stores and I asked him the same thing.
He said no it isn't a sting persay, it is a toxin that is emitted when they are disturbed. It is dangerous to us if you have an open cut or sore whem you touch them cause that toxin will go into your blood stream and cause you to get very ill...
Not so much to the fish apparently. All of my fish have left ours alone for the most part. I think you should be safe, just remember when you are touching them just get yourself a pair of rubber gloves to be safe.
Good Luck, the blue fish is a hard one... we have been trying to get a "Dory" for my 4 year old to go with Nemo and Marlin and the real Dory just won't go in our 55.
