| Ricordea | Good way to cycle tank... but.. i just read this article on cycling my tank. it said a recommended way to cycle a tank is add uncured live rock..... but i thought of... wont the high ammonia and nitrate kill the "live" in the live rock? |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Good way to cycle tank... but.. Not that I am aware of. People cycle the tank with LR but you will need a way to remove the detrius after cycling. Also watch your amonia levels. Depending on how much die-off you get the rock may not be enough. Personally I prefer to get cured LR or cure it myself and use a shirmp to cycle the tank. It just seems cleaner and easier IMO. Regardless of what you use the rock is going to go through high amonia, nitrites and nitrates as part of the cycle. The cycle is actually where you are giving the bacteria a chance to multiply so it must not hurt them.
