adding O2 to covered tank

the more I read, the more I believe I need to add suplemental O2 to my tank. It has a tightly covered top (good to keep my 6line in the tank) but apparently bad for 02 exchange. Have not had o2 tested, but reef is ok not really "flourishing" like pics I see.

Re: adding O2 to covered tank

Do you have a sump or is the entire tank covered by glass?
I have eggcrate as the covering for my tanks and it works great to keep fish in but also allows air in. I also have an air pump in my sump and several fans but I live in Florida where it is a larger problem.

Re: adding O2 to covered tank

Speaking of O2,... I have a test kit.. What are the acceptable parameters? What are we shooting for? Thanks

Re: adding O2 to covered tank

there are 3 spots for a sump in back, the first has heater, polyfilter and charcoal, second has ion echange material, third just a sponge and powerhead

Re: adding O2 to covered tank

That could certainly help particularly if the air you are using is high in oxygen and low in CO2. One of the signs of excess CO2 is lowered PH. I would keep an eye on that in any closed system. That doesn't say you have enough oxygen just the level of CO2 you have in the system.
