Tank cleaning

I know there are numerous threads if I search on google, which is what I did, but none that really answer my question directly about tank cleaning. What do I use to clean the glass? How do I remove silicone from the tank (tank is pre-drilled in the corner and he filled the holes with silicone then put glass on top and more silicone)?

Re: Tank cleaning

Alot of us use the Mr. Clean magic erasers on our glass. They work great and are not harmful to the tank just make sure you use the plain ones. Do not use any of the scented ones etc...

Re: Tank cleaning

Mag Floats work great for routine maintenance. You can get a razor blade attachment to scrape the corraline off of the glass. Be bery careful removing silicone since that is what holds the tank together. If you do want to I would use a razor blade.
If we are talking about an empty tank then wash it with a vinegar/water solution.

Re: Tank cleaning

I use the eraser and the Mag float together. I cut a thin strip of the eraser then place it front of the magnet in the tank and clean, clean, clean.

Re: Tank cleaning

I'm trying to clean the few hard water spots and get the silicone out of the holes.

As for the magic eraser idea, wouldn't that be bad for the tank when I go to fill it? Isn't there chemicals in the magic erasers?

Re: Tank cleaning

I thought there was...I just use hot water and/or white vinegar. that works WONDERS for hard water spots. the silicone, you might be able to WARM it a little to make it more plyable, then just use a razor blade to scrape it off when it cools.

Re: Tank cleaning

No chemicals involved in them unless you get the scented ones. It is just a mild abrasive. Many of us use them on our tanks both inside and outside.

Re: Tank cleaning

Worked like a charm. Used vinegar, the magic eraser, and a hard working gf and the 90 is clean. Now time to start learning how to set up the sump.

Re: Tank cleaning

Yes she is. I don't too many girls that would help clean out a fish tank full of fish poop.

Re: Tank cleaning

I cleaned our tank by myself. I even lifted it with just my husband onto the stand and it is a 125 glass tank. Wow was that heavy. The cleaning was far better than the lifting.

Re: Tank cleaning

Sine this question is part of cleaning, I'll ask it here. Anyone know how to get the white deposits off of the overflow plastic box? I tried letting it sit in vinegar / water but still on there pretty good.
