Re: skimmer

You get what you pay for. Everything I have read about them is they are less than ideal. No instructions & difficult to get the adjustment. Take a look at the ebay store that amekaaquatic has. They sell CPR Bak Pak2 & many times they have factory 2nds for a very good price.

Re: skimmer

Via aqua makes a decent skimmer for around 110.00 alot better than an odyssea I would recomend over a CSS also. But like said above you get what you pay for and I promise you will be upgrading soon. So I would just save up and get a quality skimmer Octopus make pretty good skimmers for a reasonable price or look into used equiptment thats what I always do. I got a high end skimmer for 200.00 that retails for 800.00 I would get the oddysea before I got a back-pack there pretty much junk too.

If money is an issue you might be better off going fish only. A reef tank just bleeds the money out of you.

Re: skimmer

Randy, As my compadres will jokingly tell you, I have been bulding my tank one piece at a time for six months. I think I am the manana man of Reef Sanctuary. Frankly I think they suspect me of not really wanting "live stuff". This is actually largely because I am in the middle of a divorce and on a very controlled income.

However I have found great bargains for used things on the net, on Craigslist.com and on other Reef sites. Also there are a few folks on here like Jack who are operate businesses and will help you on all things at a great rate.

Personnally I have found the (slow) process of stripping and staining my tank and buying my components piece by piece therapeutic, and in the six months since I started I have learned alot I would have had to learn the hard way if I went faster.

Welcome to RS

Re: skimmer

Randy,

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my AquaC Remora... I bought it off of ebay for $100.00. Its AMAZING!! I had bought a RedSea Prizm before and it was absolute crap, so I turned around and sold it on ebay. I recommend saving your money and investing it in something you wont regret down the line.
