| Tunicate | I started this hobby for 2 reasons! one, I have kept saltwater fish only aqauriums in the past and wondered what it would be like for me to create a piece of nature. 2, My girlfriend does not like the oceans (Damn jaws movie) So I figured, If I can't take her to the ocean to see the reefs then I will bring a piece of the ocean to her....... She loves it!! We are planning on going scuba diving in dominican replublic this summer to check out the underwater life. Who says that men can't get their way??? |

| recovering overfeeder | Re: why? Well, being a Pisces, I love fish. Had a 35 gallon FW with 1 huge gar, puffer, and oscar. Well needless to say, not a good combo, oscar ate both the puffer and gar, tore down the tank and sold it. In Jan, I decided to put a 10 gal FW tank at my office (work in a medical practice), the kids loved it, had 1 beautiful betta, and like 6 danos (orange, yellow). Tank got nasty, gave the fish away and tossed the tank. Then our office manager and I were brain storming in March, and I decided that for my B-day, I would by a tank (12.5 gal) and try SW, she bought me agralive sand and the rest is history I have always wanted a saltwater tank, I heard "it's really hard". But after extensive research, I decided to dive in head first. Now I want BIGGER!!!

| Cabbage Leather | Re: why? here is my story.....my room mate from college was a marine biologist and we had a 55 with just about every weird creation (and very common ones) we could find at the LFS that would live together - Guppies, Caecilian Eel, Male Betta, 3 female bettas, pictus cat and for awhile little neon fish (but the pictus ate them), FW lobster and I think sword tails. I always asked him when we were going to start a saltwater tank and he always said neither of us had the time or $$$ do it. I then started dating this girl whose best friend's boyfriend asked me on multiple occassions to watch his reef and FOWLR tank. I was hooked, but it took me almost 4 yrs to start a FOWLR....that was 10 yrs ago. Just recently I really started more excited as my few corals are beginning to grow at a good rate.

| Midas Blenny | Re: why? i started after one of my best friends started a 55 gal and i was going to get a mantis shrimp for first time... ha... well i then aquired this thing called a gf and car problems... most of my friends had become drug addicts... the one that got me into it tore his tank down for drug money... 2 years later i had left over money and decided to start a 10g nano for mine and my gf's 2 year... and now i have a addiction problem

| Tubeworm | Re: why? My 4 year old came to me and said she wanted a Nemo. I had a lot of freshwater experiance and always wanted salt so that was all I needed. It took anmost a year of reading and looking before I got a tank. It is going very well. Nemo and a clown goby are all I have aside from corals. |
