| Madame Klanganator | plumbing diagrams Are there any links to actual diagrams of reef system plumbing? I'm looking specifically for diagrams that incorporate a sump tank with a refugium and an in-sump skimmer. Please and thanks for any information you can send my way! Barb

Hi, AWTCJAK I've already heard lots of good things about you here in RS.I will start by saying that I have no equipment, yet! So, I have no fittings. And, I have only a tiny tiny bit of knowledge. Will it help if I tell you what I've decided upon for a setup when I DO actually buy? 65g acrylic reef ready tank (36x18x24with black background) 20g long sump tank with refugium, with ASM skimmer in-sump, heater in here, too. Lighting: either a Coralife MH/Actinic fixture (should I do 1x150mh, or 1x250 MH...I want to eventually get some clams) with Moon led's, or an Outer Orbit with similar specs.. OO prices seem a bit lower Neptune Controller; Don't know enough yet to know which model, and suggestions are welcome. Danner Mag Drive Max 9.5 pump and Maxi-jet powerheads? (I don't know enough about powerheads, yet!) The thing that MAY change is the tank size; I may have to downsize to a 55g. If so, I would get the high 55g tank... measurement 36x18x20. I don't know much about what I need to plumb a system like this, which is why I asked about plumbing diagrams. I realize there are different WAYS to plumb, but I don't seem to understand the basics other than the water overflows the display tank and goes down to the sump, where it cycles through the fuge, then cycles to the pump area where it is pumped back up top. And repeat, endlessly. If you'd like to fill in the gaps of my education thus far, PLEASE feel free. I learn better with visual aids like diagrams. Just words doesn't help info sink into this brain. Barb

| Over Achiever | Re: plumbing diagrams Barb, this is a great site and will keep you busy for hours. Marc (Melev) is a member on RS. Take a look for animation on how a sump works. Then scour his site, there is so much information there. Do it now before he realizes what he has and starts charging! ![]() Melevsreef.com | Acrylic Sumps & Refugiums |

| Plate Coral | Re: plumbing diagrams I have to agree with Dentoid Marcs site is wonderful. I would have actually paid a fee just to browse it, but dont tell him that. His pictures and diagrams are so useful. I wouldnt have been able to build my sump/fuge on my own if it wasnt for his site. I took all his ideas like the Auto Top off, the Power Station, and the acrylic designs and worked them all into my own setup. HE ROCKS!!! but seriously his site is very very helpful, especially because he has so many different setups. Here is my set up that i planned with the help of his site to just give you some more ideas. I just measured the space i had to work with and built everything from there. |

Do you people know what a TREASURE this place is, and its MEMBERS?!?!? I don't think so because you're all TOO CLOSE to it!! I belong to a lot of message boards and I'm telling you very honestly that this forum is MUCH different than any one I post on. I mean, even the threads that get closed are nice compared to some of the dog forums I belong to... and I'm talking the regular talk on regular threads that DON'T get closed. I don't think I've seen a place where different methods are respected, and helpful advice is given in a friendly way without pushing someone's own personal way as "best". Anyway, congratulations on such a wonderful community... this reef rocks! Barb
