| Serpent Star | used SW Just wondering a friend of mine has some tubs full of SW from his tank. It's in the garage so i was just wondering could i use it? does it matter that it will be sitting in the cold or not really? It will mainly just save me some salt to start with lol.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: used SW My first question is how long have they been sitting around and what do they test at? I don't think I would do it regardless beacause you would be taking on someone else's problems. If there are parasites (like ich) or other bad things you would be adding them to your tank. Kind of like not putting the fish store water in your tank when you acclimate a new fish. You would probably get some good things with the bad but I would just use a good salt with ro/di water.

| Reef Nerd :) ![]() | Re: used SW I wouldn't use it! Not at all. To be honest, if you're worried about saving salt or the $$ to buy salt you may need to re-think the whole SW thing. Unfortunately it can be an expensive hobby and salt is probably your LEAST expensive investment. One thing I have learned about this hobby is Don't skimp! You'll end up paying many times more later to correct where you went wrong. good luck. Allen ![]()

| Tiger Shark | Re: used SW I agree with everyone so far I would not use it for several reason it has gotten cold if it has not been moving the bateria is growing. Also the essential elements have been depleted. SO it is not a good idea. RO/DI is Reverse Osmosis De-ionized water.
