Live Mysid shrimp

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how you all deal with live food like mysid shrimp? Now that I have my little captive mantis shrimp, I'll need to feed the bugger.

I'm just looking for suggestions on the best way to breed, store, buy, etc live food for the mantis and other friends I acquire.

sbout once a week, I throw a snail, or crab in with mine. The rest of the week, they get raw white shrimp (from the grocery store). Their not too picky.

what species of mantis do you have?

unknown.

came w/ live rock from FL.

He's small, maybe an inch head to tail. hes greyish brown best I could tell, but it was a rockslinging, seltzer spraying, refugium dumping fiasco - I didnt spend much time studying him. Hopefully when I feed him I'll get a better look. He's got a couple small gorilla crabs to contend with before he gets hungry though.

Some Mantis throw away the catch tongs (hammer).They need living feed. Not all kinds do this, but some. About that you can read a lot of reports here in Europe.

There are just enough crazy reefer (like me).

yea, i feed Bane rarley. i just make sure he's got a lot of hermits, snais and mynthrax to shop around for

I was successful in feeding this little spawn of satan some shrimp on friday. He's like a lightning bolt when he comes out from under the rock. I think he is one of the all green types. I love watching his eyes - they rotate independently. It also uses small shells or rock to 'close' the entrance to the hole in the rock, like a door.

Yeah, although thats how I spotted him this am, he had a white shell, and was trying to get it to rest across the entrance, but it kept falling in. He's very persistent and just kept propping it back up. All this movement caught my eye, so I'm not sure how effective this method really is for him... I think he'd be better off just sitting still!

That has got to be quite interesting as well as comical to watch...So many new things happening in these tanks everyday..Makes you think about Mantis shrimp...briefly anyway!
