Exclamation Ric Yuma in Sump??

Ok, I am just about to head out for a week of holidays and my Ric Yuma just started to float around....to make a long story short it was in a hole in one of my rocks for the past few weeks and would to seem to open up during the day depending on the light etc.

Well today I dosed my food with Selcon and it opened right up after about 10 minutes and was all the way out of the hole....but to my surprise it was not attached and stared to float away. I don't have time to take actions to secure it in place and don't want it to float away to the back or worse into the over flow....so I have placed it in my fuge where I know it will be "safe" . Well safe from floating to somewhere I can't find it.

my question is, will my fuge light be sufficient enough for a week? Basically will it survive until I get back and can secure it?

Thanks again!

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

If your light cycles opposite of your tank & will not get sucked through a return pump I would say yes it should be fine

What other alternative do you have? You could gently tie it down to a rock with a piece of monofilament or a rubberband and keep it in your main tank. Or leave it in your refugium and see what happens. I think it will be fine in the fuge for a week.

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

It should be fine for a week even with weak lighting. Some fuge lights are strong enough to grow corals.
Like AQTCJAK mentioned, make sure it won't blow into the return pump.

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

Wow, thanks all for the quick response! That's why I love it here are RS!!

My Fuge light cycle is opposite my main tank - its a 28w Coralife PC.

I don't think it could get sucked to the return outlet since the flow is so low. I will leave it in the sump and cross my fingers! I think I will give the super glue a try when I get back and get it right where I want it. I was recently talking to someone who has had success with this...do you see any problems glue a ric in place?

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

Yes it should be fine in there as long as it's SAFE from returns etc.

Remember that in the wild storms happen and light can be blocked for days on end so it's natural. I wouldn't try any longer if I could help it. You may notice some slight discoloration and "wilting" but it should fair just fine.

good luck!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

You cant glue mushrooms down, espcially ricordia, unless they are attached to small pieces of sand first. Mushrooms are way too slimy and can just slime their way out of the glue. If it were me i would use the fishing line method. All you have to have is a needle and some fishing line. You thread the fishing line through the needle poke it through the ricordia wrap it around the rock and poke it through on the other side tie it down and let it attach. I think this would be the best method!

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

Have a safe trip and watch out for spiders, Anyway,I think your ric should be fine. I have one that attached itself to the bottom of my overflow that I just spied the other day while looking beneath the piles of LR caves and it is huge down there, also very shadowed getting very little light, but apparently has been there quite awhile. Figures, I can't get to it unless I disassemble all the rock, NOT!

Re: Ric Yuma in Sump??

Aquaman - Thanks, I will give that method a shot when I get back. How long should it take to attach?

Caitrina - Hopefully I won't run into any spiders or attacking cleaner shrimp (-;
