| Tubeworm | Are there any electronic salinity monitors that are reliable? I'm starting out a new tank and I'm looking for a way to constantly monitor my salt levels and display on a lcd. I searched but didn't find anything. I was able to find it for ph and temperature but that was it. The closest thing was the pinpoint tester but that doesn't constant monitor. Thanks in advance. |

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: Are there any electronic salinity monitors that are reliable? Nope At least nothing in what I would call the hobbyist price range. But honestly it takes like five seconds to check with a refractometer....

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Are there any electronic salinity monitors that are reliable? The only such toy is the Pinpoint Salinity monitor, without costing an arm and leg. Some like it and some don't. Welcome to American Marine Inc. American Marine Pinpoint Salinity Monitor (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Testing Equipment > Monitor Equipment > Single Item Monitors & Controllers )

If remember correctly I have heard recommendations that when using this one should remove a sample of water from the aquarium and use this meter in a separate container to prevent any electrical interference from pumps heaters etc. Just seemed like the same amount of work if not more than a good refractometer ![]()

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Are there any electronic salinity monitors that are reliable? It can be Mike, that is why it isa called a "monitor" and not a "meter" but it is best to just test the water with it. There have been issues with it for some when used as a monitor. It usually deals with location.

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: Are there any electronic salinity monitors that are reliable? Ah, I see. I had just heard so much positive and negative about it when it first came out, but haven't heard much since then. Again I haven't used it so no first hand knowledge. If I could wire it into my Tunze osmolator to maintain my salinity I would probably invest in it ![]()
