??? but but, if your using a deli shrimp to cycle your tank there should not be any reef inhabitants to kill . besides it was more likely due to something else, perhaps a die was in that shrimp/clam or the rinsing solution used or how it was stored along the way freezing unfreezing refreezing ect.., wherever he got the shrimp. coastal areas will have "fresher" some stores will sell deli type shrimp even if the refrigeration broke on the truck and fouled the load, who knows...dout it was the actual shrimp or clam that cause the store owners issues. more likely a operations/buisness practice problem.

I'm not sure if there would be any significant die off as a result, considering it will be submerged during the entire journey to my tank (approximately 2.5 hour car ride), but I suppose the quick cycle you mentioned might in fact just be even quicker as a result.

Thanks again!
sorry for the real late reply, but for others, unless you can keep the water circulated i would not transport it in water. wrapping it in a wet towel for a 2.5 hour ride woiuld the way to go, IMO. jsut have a tank/tub with good temp and ph, something for flow ready to go.

Re: Just exactly what is a 'cycled' tank

Hey - I'm about to get a 29 gallon Oceanic Bio Cube. My uncle has a 100 gallon tank thats been established for 15+ years. He will give me all 29 gallons that I need, along with some Bio-Balls for my filter. (Do the Bio Cubes use Bio Balls?)

About how long will this take to cycle, and what should be in there during this time? (Live rock? Fish? Coral?)

Thanks.
