Falco Hawkfish

Anyone have one? How does it get along with other fish?
I was reading in one of my books that it may eat shrimp or crabs.

Right now we have 2 false clowns (small), 2 yellow headed clown gobies (small), 2 peppermint shrimp ( to try and get rid of aipistia) I really need to learn how to spell that.

B-Day is coming up in 2 weeks, so it will be then that more fish would be added.

It's a nice fish and I wanted to get one but if you like your shrimp I would'nt recommend it

They are generally less aggressive than the other hawks and usually don't get as large as the others. He never showed any interest in crabs, but I didn't have any shrimp in the tank. He got along great with a clown and a watchman goby that were in the tank.

All of the hawks will feed on crustaceans, it is as with others, the tendencies to do so vary with each individual fish. HTH

"Not all Hawkfish make good aquarium inhabitants. I’ll concentrate primarily on those that are good candidates for the home aquarium.

The first up is Cirrhitichthys falco, or the Falco Hawkfish. It originates from the West Pacific and is usually found around 30 feet to 60 feet deep. Reaching only three inches in length, it is a safer choice for community aquariums than most other Hawkfish. It has a small mouth and larger prey cannot be consumed. Don’t be misled, however, as they have been known to attack and kill smaller fish, shrimp, and newcomers. "

I have a Falco Hawkfish in my 95 gallon reef tank. When I put him in the tank I also had several crabs and snails. Slowly but surely, they all disappeared. I thought that the Wrasse that was responsible for the crabs deaths so I had him removed. I then purchased a bunch of crabs and snails. I put them in the tank and immediately the Hawkfish went crazy and started to attack the crabs. So far he has killed about 3 of them within the past 24 hours. I am going to buy him some live bait to feed on. I am hoping maybe that will stop him from attacking the snails and crabs. The cool thing about this fish is that he is interesting to watch. He does a lot of really cool things in the tank. I have heard that not all the Hawkfish are the same so you are taking a chance. Good luck.
