Great post all .... somethingfishy, you've got a ton of info here. probably all you need but do find out what type of percs they are, keep them on a varied diet .... mine have mysis, shrimp, artemia, brine and even seaweed selects .... that will keep them happy. We all have impulsive buys but PLEASE don't rush out and buy an anenome .... it will likely perish in a new tank. Wait at least 6 months before thinking about it and make sure you have the correct lighting for it before you buy

I feed mine a combination of foods soaked with selcon. Flakes, frozen brine, frozen mystis, Emerald entrée etc. I try to find different foods to try for them I figure that way I get them a balanced natural diet.

Also with tank raised clownfish especially Ocellaris there's a good chance that they won't take to anemones and form a symbiotic relationship. I was fortunate that my Sebae Anemone became host to my B&W perc after a couple of months, it doesn't always happen

Furnace is fixed, little brothers car fixed.

The fish scared me this morning. I wake up to see one swimming, the other one at the top of the tank. He still was full of color, breathing. Suddenly he "wakes" up and starts swimming after the other one. It was almost as if they were playing hide and go seek. It was pretty wild.

They are still good. Ate some black worms, and some formula 1. So I am less worried now. Thanks for the support everyone.

No problems man...the only reason we're all so laid back about this is 'cause we've all done it before. Now we just freak out on other things...

For a percula clown, try either a heteractis crispa, h. magnifica, or a stichodactyla gigantea.

Never found those malu's any real chop for perculas, despite everyone telling me otherwise. Go very well with Tomatoes though.

Re: Clownfish

Are maroons aggressive if they are introduced in pairs?

My Maroon juvenile, 3/4" fish, loved and grew very fast on cylopeeze and mysis shrimp.

Re: Clownfish

My maroon eats any food I add to the tank. lol. Check out the different kinds of clowns before you buy. I have a Maroon and they can/are very agressive so I have to be very cautious trying to introduce anything else to the tank. They are at their worst towards other new clownfish so if you want 2 then add them at the same time.
As to what inverts, I can't think of any that my clown has gone after, so assuming you have room in the tank you should be good.
When stocking the tank keep in mind the rule of thumb is 1in full grown fish per 5g of water. So a 20g tank gives you room for 4 inches of fish at their adult size.
Please do not get an anemone for them now at least. Anemones require a well established tank (a year or more old) and strong lighting (either mh or T5). Also they do not need a host to begin with and many host in some types of soft corals as well.

Re: Clownfish

somethingfishy... make sure your oxygen exchange is good... i had 2 oclar clowns... i jumped the gun and measured all my water parameters, everything testing out perfect but i never measured ALK!... Few days later one is at the top of the tank just bairly movin around and then i startled him he swam back down to the other clown Just like yours. Just keep a close eye because my LFS told me that when they are swimming at the surface that means there going where there is richer oxygen to breathe due to a lack of it at the bottom and on top of that my ALK was a little low. Keep us updated on the clowns buddy and MAKE SURE you have good circulation for the oxygen exchange!

Re: Clownfish

Your clownfish sound like they are doing good. most of my fish that I have bought check themselves out in their reflections. and yes, they sleep at the top of the tank around my cpr bakpak. but I guess I was luckier than most because my ocellaris accepted my new pink skunks with no problem. they sleep and swim most of the day together. my skunks took a couple of days to get used to the flake food I use. my ocellaris break the surface of the water, almost leaping out like small puppies when I feed. they also follow my hand while I feed my anemone shrimp, (which they will chew at in small pieces) and tang his "pleco passion' (loves the stuff better than the regular saltwater brands for some reason.) good luck. theyr'e fun!
