Why does everyone hate crabs?

I am about 3 weeks into cycling my new 100 gallon tank and starting to think about my clean up crew. my LFS recommends some hermits along with the standard varity of snails. They walked me through setting up my 24 gallon about 8 months ago and I have gotten really good support/advise from them so far. In fact everything to this point has conformed to the opnions on this forum.

WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE CRABS??

crabs are opportunistic feeders...sooner or later they will eat something you don't want them to.

I've kept Scarlet hermits for many years and I love them... they groom my sand bed and keep it bright! I also keep Acro crabs that came with my SPS.

Oh yeah... and you gotta love...

The reason exactly. I have heard good things about scarlet hermits but the rest will eat your snails and anything else they can get ahold of.

Some of my more memorable times involved crabs, some times you have to give them away, there not worthy of hate just strong soap.Steve

HAHA You dont want me to get in on this! My post will be edited. My scarlet reef hermits dont bother anyone. Even Witfull has crabs now!

I don't hate crabs. I just know they will eat things and move stuff that i don't want going on in my system. My daughter has an emerald in her nano and it dosen't bother anything. I found an acro crab in my coral just tonight. I'll have to get rid of it because my fish are crab eaters and will trash the coral when they find out about it. Hermits will definatly kill snails to get there shell.
So there you go. Thats why people don't like crabs.

that flaming link is my experience with crabs.
i have since taken them out and tank looks great. there are creatures that provide the same benefit as crabs without the downside.
I do however keep two crabs in my fuge

its ok you can admit it... you get up in the morning and run and check on the little guy to make sure its ok. Have you hugged your crab today?
