An Addict's Journey... need advice

Hello Again! I will give you a little info...
I have a 29Gal Bio Cube w/ some mods (lighting & filtration).
It is WAY overstocked. I'm sorry and I admit it.

I now have enough room in my living room for a 60" tank. I was getting a 48" 150XH, and decided I don't want the XH... too deep.
So, I decided to go with a 120Gal which was 48" X 24" (I think).
But now, I have an extra foot... I really want to use those 12 inches!
I am having trouble finding tanks that size. I really don't want to go the custom route ($$$), and I am not really happy with acrylic. The only tank I have been able to find is a 150 which is 60 x 18. I like a deep sand bed and I don't know if I would be truly happy with something that shallow.

SO, does anyone have an ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Go for the 150. That 12" of extra lateral room will be very nice for the fish!.... plus it's more water volume You can get the same benefits from a 2-3" sand bed as you can from a 4"+. I have 2-3" and it has excellent nitrAte reducing properties.

A 5' long 150 is 60X24X24, isn't it?

all-glass' 150 is 72" long, 18" front to back, 28" tall

Re: An Addict's Journey... need advice

The oceanic does sound REALLY nice... but my LFS deals with perfecto. I think that is where the problem is. Maybe I'll see if they can get the oceanic. I have also realized that the Outer Orbit 150W MH aren't going to work with the 60". So, I guess I will have to get the 250's... Darn (wink, wink). Thanks for the help..

Hey Lisa...

If you ever plan on keeping SPS, I would seriously consider going with 250W.

Re: An Addict's Journey... need advice

Thanks all! Yeah... I'm really heartbroken (not) that I need the 250's. I wanted an excuse anyway to get them. But, simply stated, I need more wattage for the 150 Gal. So, the purchase is now justified! Yippie!!! Getting ready to abuse some more payroll and go to the LFS and change my mind AGAIN about the tank selection. I'll keep you posted...

Lynn, yes... I'm sooo excited!

Re: An Addict's Journey... need advice

Ok, i had to go check out perfecto sizes (don't think i ever did)....
The only 60" tank they have listed is a 120. 60X18 (front to back)X26 tall... is that the "one" ?? hehe the 150's they have listed are 48X24X30 (that's the XH you initially liked?)... i like the 24" front to back on that, great for aquascaping! and also, a 72X18X27. length is nice but the 18" front to back can be frustrating (my 90g is 18"). i'm actually a big fan of the 180 (probably my next tank - have to double!! hehe) at 72X24X24, best of everything!

Hate to say it but you might have a problem getting an Oceanic tank. Since the merger with All Glass things seem to be all crazy with them. My LFS is having a real hard time getting a lot of the Oceanic stuff atm. A lot of the Oceanic stuff has been discontinued. They seem to be changing their tank line up around. He also cant seem to get me a canopy for my 75 AGA either...
The Outer Orbit fixtures look awesome! I have the 48" MH/T5 fixture. I cant wait to see it in action!

You are exactly right... I had it backwards. I just left the LFS and we cleared it up. They are checking on the 156 by Oceanic. As Brothawolf said, things are weird there now. I'll NOT get my hopes up.
I am still undecided about the other 2. I know, the bigger is better rule but I'm not sure that I would be happy with the 150XH. On the other hand, I'm not sure if I like the 18" front to back either.
Now I wish I had 6 ft. - Heck I guess I could get rid of my sofa...
