| Sea Pen | Remora Skimmer Noise... Hi guys, I just got my Remora Skimmer 1200 and this thing is loud. The tank is in my bed room and the manual stated the noise is louder than normal during the break in period which it is 1-2 weeks. I doubt this thing can go much quieter after the break in period. so I may leave it on during the day n off at night unless I have other better options.. any idea? Thanks |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Remora Skimmer Noise... A bath towel.... large one. When my 30 cube was in the bedroom (on my husband's side of the bed) I had to muffle the remora's noise as much as possible. I rolled/folded a bath towel and placed it over (top and sides) the skimmer to keep the noise down.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Remora Skimmer Noise... I wonder if Miss Woodstock's trick would work with hamsters running noisy exercise wheels at night. greasing the wheels with petroleum jelly made them WORSE! Nothing like TWO black bear hamsters running wheels throughout the nite. ![]() |

| Bryozoan | Re: Remora Skimmer Noise... I had the same experience. Hooked the thing up, and WOW, it was loud. Sounded like that thing the dentist puts in your mouth to suck the spit out. I emailed remora, and they suggested packing paper towel around the injector, BUT NOT UNDER IT - making sure you don't block the spray. I was skeptical because it was so loud, didn't think it would work, but tried it anyway. I was wrong, it worked like a charm! Thing is totally silent now, and it did not affect foam production - just change the paper towel periodically as it becomes waterlogged. |

| Scopas Tang | Re: Remora Skimmer Noise... Hey 32Bit, a few shots of something something just before bed will do the trick too.... ![]() But seriously, can a dense sponge cut to shape do the same thing in muffling the noise as a papertowel or a piece of plastic would do.....would take a fraction of the time it would to make that plastic lid mod and last longer too.....it would be safer to use than a papertowel that could potentialy fall into the spray nozel, and hence fowl the skimmer and tank. Perhaps AquaC needs to think about making a fix for these things....
