| Sea Pen | Heater location is a small reef tank.. Hi everyone, I've seen many beautiful reef tanks pics on the internet. They have one thing in common is I don't see a heater in the tank. Some people hide their heater in a filter or sump just to make their display tank look better. But I have a 20g tank with a HOT protein skimmer only. Where should I install my heater for my tank? Thanks |

I see most people install their power head at the top section of the tank. The fish will be able to get to the heater easily if I place the heater next to the power head which it has the best water flow in the tank.

| Serpent Star | Re: Heater location is a small reef tank.. In all three of my tanks (26, 20, and 10) my heaters are in the tank at the back left, in the flow of water (output on two, and input on the 10). So far no fishies have burned themselves. I know that someone on the board had a wartskin angler that got stuck in behind the heater and burned himself, with most fish I don't think that is a problem. I have a small dwarf lion in my 20 that I worry about, so i don't have the heater suction cupped to the side, it just kind of sits there and is easily moveable by the fish if he gets behind it.

| Sea Pen | Re: Heater location is a small reef tank.. I think a reef tank w/o a heater in it greatly enhances its appearance. Don't u people think so? That is the main reason that I am trying not to have a heater in my tank. I'm still trying to figure out a way to do this.. Maybe get a big enough HOT filter and stick the heater in it? umm.. I dont know. still thinking.. ![]() |

| Re: Heater location is a small reef tank.. You can always set up a fuge to hold the skimmer, heater etc. to keep it out of the display. |

I also have a Remora Skimmer 1200, not sure I can place the heater in it.
