I will wait

Ok I have finnaly come to grips with the fact that I will have to wait and be patient. I will wait until Jan. and I will have enough money for the 55 gal. Not to say there is anything wrong with a nano but I really want a bigger tank. I wanted to jump right in and start but realized it is dangerous for the fish and could possibly turn me off from the hobby. I really want to do it right and have a little more options as far as fish go. Sorry but I had to tell someone. Also what other options for fish am I looking at, and what size sump should I have for a 55 gal?
Thanks, again I apoligize for taking up your time.

Re: I will wait

It is better to wait if money is an issue.. You can always watch for deals at stores or online and buy supplies slowly.. It doesnt seem like such a drastic drop from the wallet that way.. Sump depends on the room under the tank.. A 20 gallon would work.

Your not taking up our time.. no need to say sorry...

Re: I will wait

thanks. I figured I would take it slow and then my questions would make more sense because I will be dealing with things as I buy them. Then I can research every item that I am going to buy next.

Re: I will wait

I know, it's going to kill me. My lfs will cycle the rocks for me. Everytime they get new rocks in they cycle them. They will also prepare the water for your tank. First thing I have to do is build the stand. the problem is I dont lilke any of the DIY projects out there. Also I have to find out the dimensions on a 55 gal. I also have to find out what size tubing is going to be used for the sump. Can I build the sump before the tank?

Karma makes it fun~
Yep, you can build the sump; Just be sure the sump will fit in the stand you make.

Re: I will wait

for my first question why a 55 i have one and everyone else that normal starts out has one. when i had it i hated it too death way to tall and skinny i just wanted to knwo why to want it and as for the stand you will be limited just because of the width of the tank.

Re: I will wait

IMO, a 55 is a terrible tank for a reef. Too shallow front/back to allow good aquascaping. A 75 is a much better starter tank for a reef. Almost everything (equipment) is going to be the same, (lighting, filtration, etc) yet the 18" depth makes aquascaping MUCH easier, and looks much nicer. PLUS, that extra 20 gallons of water volume tends to make a much more stable tank for you...

Patience is perhaps the most difficult thing in this hobby to learn...just remember:
Only the bad things happen fast...all the good things take time...
