| Acropora ![]() | Cycle/Algae Question Ok here's my very first real question... New 29 gallon bio cubes been up for one week now, 30lbs l/r 30lbs l/s Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate all ZERO Cycling with only the rock and sand (picked up a piece of shrimp today but have yet to throw it in) Im noticing brown algae on the l/r and starting to grow on the sand also a small area of what looks like the start of green hair algae... I know the tank is not cycled. I used R/O water only in the tank what gives? Could it be phosphates? Thats the only thing I could think of but Im a newb when it comes to this reef stuff so Im askin the pros.... |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Cycle/Algae Question Silicates, phosphates, and nitrates all fuel algae. Cycling a new tank will create an algae bloom. Continue with regular water changes using ro/di, use a phosphate media, and keep the detritus cleaned out; it will go away. Toss the shrimp in and get it cycled~
