| Harlequin Tuskfish | Water help Ok, I mixed my water up a few days ago in the tank, and for the past 48 hours or so I've been running powerheads to mix the water. The problem is, the water is cloudy and some of the salt is settling out, on powerheads, the glass, etc, even though the SG is only about 1.024 right now. I used RO/DI water, does anyone have any idea what's up here? I know it should be clear by now. |

| Moderator ![]() | Re: Water help This is puzzling! I'm not really sure why it would still be cloudy. I know when we mix saltwater it's usually clear in a matter of minutes. What kind of salt are you using and I don't know....how old is it? Anyway, here's a bump for you. Hope someone can help you figure it out! |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Water help Cloudy water sounds like either a bacterial bloom (unlikely in your case) or a calcium precipitation event. "Settling out"? Do you have a white film (not course salt) on the side glass and pumps? If so, it sounds like you've had a calcium precipitation event. Did you add any supplements? What type of salt did you use? How did you mix the salt?

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Water help I'm using reef crystals. I haven't added any substrate or additives, just filled the tank halfway with water, added salt, and started mixing while it filled to about 45 gallons. yeah, its a white film that blows off if I aim a powerhead at it. |
