Smile another quick lighting question?????

Ok as alot of you know. I will be starting a tank in about 6 months or so...My question is about lighting again. I am in the process of locating the websites that I will be purchasing all of my equipment from. I am looking for a website that I will be able to get more for my money.... I am planning right now to get 48" MH lights. Where would be the best website to goto to buy new lights? When I get ready to purchase lights I will check out ebay for used lights. Just trying to save a buck here and there.

Re: another quick lighting question?????

There are several good suppliers of lighting out there. You'll find that they all change prices a lot and 6 months from now a different one may have slightly lower prices. Best thing to do is to have a short list of about 3 suppliers, and recheck them just before you buy.

Here are a few I like and use -
http://www.championlighting.com/home.php
http://www.lampsnow.com/
http://www.marinedepot.com/homepage.asp

There are plenty of others.

Re: another quick lighting question?????

Check out our sponsors. Several carry lighting including finsdepot who has awesome customer service IME. I did not buy my lights from them but other purchases have been great. I bought my lights from hellolights who is unfortunately not a sponsor, but they did have a great price on what I wanted and also had great customer service. Just need to get them to sponsor RS. LOL
IMO look around at lights and decide what you want, then go shopping for the best price. I thought I was going to go crazy (more than normal) looking at a thousand different types and prices etc before I finally decided what I wanted. Then I just had to see who carried it and at what price.
Personally I would avoid used lights in most cases. Lighting is one of the most expensive things you will need for your reef and the warranty with new lights is worth it to me.
One last thing. When trying to determine who has the best price pay attention to free shipping etc. Several times we thought we had the cheapest price for what we wanted only to find that the shipping cost added on made them more expensive than another vendor who included free shipping in the price. I needed a 72in fixture so that cost more for shipping and may not be as much of a problem for you but certainly something to keep in mind.
