Question Been A While!

Hey RS!
It's been a while since I've been on and I really came to get some good advice.
I want to add a couple of Butterfly fish to my tank...I plan on giving away about 5 of my smaller fish but plan to keep two tangs ( Yellow and Regal), Two Clownfish and a dwarf angel...Will there be a problem please let me know b4 I go through with this, I've been getting mixed feedback.

Thanks Guys & Gals

Re: Been A While!

butterfly are a tough fish to keep.. i tried one in my 210 with no luck... But if they are eating.. you should have no problem in your 90g tank... full at that point, but should be ok.. my opinion though, others might disagree...

Welcome Back!

Re: Been A While!

Yellow tangs can get quite agressive so I would be very careful before adding anything to the tank. At least re-arrange all the rocks etc to reorganize the territory. Also agree that 2 tangs are a lot for a 90, but if done carefully you could get away with it for a time. Major maintenance would be the key IMHO. Lots of water changes and lots of watching the tank for signs of agression.

Re: Been A While!

funny you guys say the yellow is agressive, because mine is a wimp... The powder blue, purple and hippo, all pick on him...
And my yellow was the first fish in the tank..

Re: Been A While!

Well mine did what I have heard of so many fish of varying kinds. He was a model citizen for a long time, then we added a fish he didn't like and "wammo". From that point on, any new fish was targeted. Kinda like once had the taste of blood he wouldn't stop. I ended up trading him in at the lfs so he is hopefully happy in his new home. Once he was sold I no longer get updates.

Re: Been A While!

I would add only one Butterfly IF you have a good skimmer. That's a heavy bio-load for a 90 gal. tank IMO. Ditto to aggression from the established Tangs keep an eye out. How long has this tank been setup ? How much LR do you have ? Also which skimmer are you using ? Is this a reef or FO ?
