Arrival of new rock brought...

3 different shrimp, or what I think are shrimp. One was pretty large ( 1-2 inches long) blue in color, one red one about an inch long, small one under 1/2" almost clear.

Several different crabs, a couple of large ones and several small ones.

Lots of feather dusters, several others like them that I have no clue what they are.

There are lot of "things" moving on the rocks themselves. Almost as if the rock is breathing.

All these things make me want to order more rock. Except for pocket book is a bit empty.

As far as the shrimp go I have been reading of pistol and mantis shrimp. Sarah I believe is trying to get rid of a mantis shrimp. Do I need to worry?

The Question Guy,
Rusty

I'd definitely try to trap the crabs. Most of the hitchhiker crabs end up being most undesirable in your tank. They will grow & eat all your fish & inverts. The odds are also that the shrimp will be mantis shrimp, and not too good in a tank either.

best thing to do is pull it all out again, including the rock you have already and let it sit out and hope they all come out again. do it now before they create a problem

Crabs are Evil - Mantis are Demons

Well here is the funny part.

I put all the live rock in the 20 gallon. But 1 shrimp, the blue one went into the 55 gallon along with 3 crabs, little bitty things.

The rock is now back out of the 20 gallon. But the 55 gallon aleady had 35 pounds of dry reef rock. Got to find something put that in.

I am seriously thinking I need to bang my head on rock now. I was all proud of myself, got all the live animals got them in the tanks. Now I find out they are bad animals. Go figure.

Need to have a admin sticky all my mistakes. Maybe it will stop others....

Oh I know it is just a learning experience. Learning is just a pain sometimes.

I am not sure what the call the feather dusters and such, but do they need special lighting of any kind to thrive?

Thank you guys for your help. I am off to pull some some rock out of tank.

Just out of plain curiosity would these crabs grow large enough to eat?

Woodood, there is some polups (sp?) that look kinda like your avatar in here too.

I will get my dad over tonight with his digital camera to take some pictures.

Maybe you guys can tell me what this stuff is.

Oh and are star fish bad? I just found 2. Very small, but I believe that they are alive.
