| Midas Blenny | How do you Store extra Salt water ? Posted: Wed Apr 12, 2006 1:41 pm Post subject: Storing Salt water for water changes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all, I am mixing DI water and Coralife salt to create my seawater for my tank. As this is a brand new tank, I'm going to mix my inital seawater mix right in my 75 gal tank. Now, when I make up seawater for partial water changes, if I have extra mixed saltwater, how long can I store it for ? During storage do I need to keep air and heat going in the storage container ? I know I need to keep air/heat going 24 hours prior to use, then can I stop air/heat during storage, then 24 hour prior to use again add air/heat. Thanks Bonnie |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: How do you Store extra Salt water ? During storage, I would keep atleast a powerhead in there for circulation. Be aware that the salinity may change due to evaporation. If you do not use a heater, be sure to warm it up prior to checking its salinity (and of course before you add it to your tank).

| Bryozoan | Re: How do you Store extra Salt water ? I keep my water in a 20 gal rubbermaid container with a power head right at the top to create air bubbles in the water. I have premade salt water before without the power head for circulation and the water developed a smell to it after about 4-5 days cant exactly remember but thats the only time I have done it. Besides with the power head it helps mix the salt and prevents it from settling on the bottom. ![]() |
