Re: Mistakes You've Made

Speaking of live wires...

We went camping this weekend. First thing I did after I got home was got on the computer to check my work email. I sat on the couch, lifted the comp up onto my lap to see sparks flying everywhere!! I then get it unplugged to inspect what the issue is. Well, the comp cord was chewed almost completely in half.

So--the cats are the culprit. I know my 18 year old maltese wouldn't do this!

So I grab one cat (Drew) he looked fine. Had to search and search, and finally found Lilly. Her nose is completely split in half. All scabbed up. She is lucky she didn't die, or light the house on fire while we were not home. I believe she learned her lesson this week, she has done this in the past, but not to this effect. Thank god she is ok.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

I have learned how to syphon without sucking on the hose - stick the whole hose under water - no air bubbles and keeping one end underwater, plug the other end (I stick my thumb into the hose), pull hose out and drop below the water level and release the end - voila, water change without nasty taste!!

Steph, you bobo.
Stace, that poor cat...although, I understand the aggravation. One of mine went through a period where he tried to eat furniture. Sometimes a good whoopin goes a long way...just kidding! Or am I?

Re: Mistakes You've Made

Recently I added a strong powerhead to increase the current for the xenias. It was so powerful that it blew my sweet litle mandarin fish to extinction. All other fish are surviving the current, but I don't think the mushrooms like it too much. -- the xenias are thriving like weeds--

One of my biggest is a long story but the most important lesson to learn from it is don't put a glass hot heater into the tank. Longer story but I almost electrocuted myself and blew out everthing electric in the tank.

Re: Mistakes You've Made

I had a nice fun one a few weeks back. It was time to do a water change... So I shut off the return pump not remembering to bring my loc-line above the water and well so the dreaded siphon started and dumped like 5 gallons on my floor before I realized it. So I quick fix that problem continue on with the water change. I get all finished and plug the return pump back in. No mind you I never put the loc-line back under water and it was pointing slightly up and towards the wall. So on comes the pump and about 2 gallons shoots out of the tank on to the wall and then on the power strip which promptly starts crackling and smoking. Not a very fun day. But on a brighter note it did occur to me in a great epihany that if I close the ball vavle on my return the siphon doesn't happen. Hind Sight, lol.

I had a similar one about 2 weeks ago.

Sometimes our powerhead stops working after it is unplugged and then plugged back in. so I pulled the powerhead out, fixed it, (while plugged in) and put it back in, while reaching in I noticed some zoa's flipped over, so I was fixing them, getting soaking wet. I looked over, I was holding the return of the PH out of the water, soaking the back of our tv, wall, carpet. It was a mess!! I even managed to shoot it OVER the tv onto the front screen.

I started a freshwater tank for my wife. Siphoning freshwater just isn't the same. It freaks me out because it has no taste.
