Here are some tips on cutting back to keep your bills in the same range as before.

Put a timer in the bathroom, the family is now only aloud to take 5 minute showers, baths are out of the question.

Tv time is cut to 1 hour a night, we have to make up for all of the lights/pumps/heaters/chillers/etc. running

No more lights, duct tape all light switches in the off position. If someone needs light, they can sit by the tank.

Sorry bunny, I sacrificed you to help others save money!

Are you talking about the silicone?

If so, not hard at all if you have patience.

Re: How hard is it to..

I didn't buy it because I didn't know what I was getting into. It's jus the silicone, the last owner said it started leaking and tried replacing the seal himself. His repatching job failed, he didnt take all the silicone off, just threw more (of what just looks like caulk) on where it was leaking. I am going to go look at it again today.

I do not have any pictures, but may take some today when I go and look. I think I might have reef fever... I already have 90g acyrlic, 20g, 220g, and now a 180? My fiance is going to KILL me!! hahaha. Lets hope my floors can support all this. lol, dont worry we are not putting them on the second floor, and will be putting supports in!

Re: How hard is it to..

It's not that difficult to replace the seal. You need to scrape away the old silicone right down to the glass. Clean the glass with some solvent & recaulk with aquarium rated silicone. Silicone does not have good adhesion to already cured silicone.

Go for it.
For that price you almost have to.
I would buy it and risk the grief from hubby though it would take some time before we could afford to completely set it up.

Re: How hard is it to..

What everybody else said.
If it is already drained, etc, this will be a piece of cake. You could be done with it in a couple of hrs and fill it with water 48 hrs later.

Re: How hard is it to..

I would let the new silicone cure for a lot longer than 48hrs. Woodstock had an issue when she built a new sump and added water before it was fully cured. Unless there is a reason you really need to hurry I would wait a week or so before putting water in it.

Re: How hard is it to..

I haven't bought it yet, and honestly have no intentions of putting it up ASAP. So letting the seal dry is no issue to me!!! We are going to pick it up tomorrow!!!!!! Woo hooooo

Re: How hard is it to..

He is actually the one that initially said, Hmm I wonder how many gallons that is. So I asked about it, and he said, well a leak wouldn't be that hard to fix! Hahaha, but that was just us talking in general, not as if I were purchasing it!

Sounds like a great deal with a "buyer beware" clause in the fine print! I leaking tank can be repaired with attention no problem.
1st Consider why the tank is it leaking? A tank is pretty tough & there is a good reason why it sprung a leak!. Is the stand good & sturdy? Chances are the stand is a suspect why the tank is leaking. Are the top or bottom tank frame cracked in the corners? Are the top braces intact? Is it leaking along the bottom or side seams? I assume your in no hurry to get it up & running, so You can take your time to make proper repairs! The stand aside ,if the top & bottom frames are intact Go for it!
