| Achilles Tang  | water level In a SW tank when the water level drops you have to pour in some freshwater right? This is what I've thought for a while I"m pretty sure that's what the guy from the LFS told us. But Ben thinks that when the level drops you have to pour SW back in it. So what are you suppose to do?

| Do I look as lost as I am  | Re: water level No ONLY FW evaporates so you add FW for top off. IF you add SW you'll very quickly raise your salinity to toxic levels. FW for top-offs and SW for water changes ONLY!!

It's ALL gotta go!! Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change. Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian) This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%. Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!! | The Wand Geek was here. ;)   | Re: water level Yep, top off all evaporated water with fresh water preferrably twice a day. Topping off affects the salinity and ph so make small adjustments.

| Achilles Tang | Re: water level But since we just set it up the tank my arm has been in the tank everyday a couple times a day....I'm either moving rocks, direct feeding, setting up the powerhead or flipping snails over. See it's in there a lot. So when it does that the water comes out of the tank onto my arm. That's what Ben is saying.

That's why we "check" salinity when we do water changes and make small adjustments to our new water accordingly. Yes if you "drag" the water out of "splash" it out it's SW but that's very little in the BIG scheme of things. Just check it and adjust slowly with your WC water. so actually BEN was right too! You BOTH get what Wit suggested
