Fighting Nudi

I have a small nudi problem in my 125 (not in the 175 though), zoa eating nudi. So far I have tried the following with some success:
1. fresh water dips - did this for 3 weeks and qt'd the zoas. Put them back, and still had a few.
2. Flat worm exit - this is very recent. Did it for 3 dips 6 days apart to get the hatched eggs. Just put them back. I do not see any of those little buggers, but....
3. I recently put in yellow coris wrasse. The first 2 just jumped out and well you can figure out the rest. So I decided to try to add 4 at a time and see what happens. Well, so far 3 have decide to come out of the sand after about a week. It is my understanding that they are the best at hunting nudies. They are a beautiful fish and I am very pleased to say that my mystery wrasse is leaving them alone. They are not going to the top of the tank and seem to be hunting 'bugs' or some kind. I put all the zoas back into the tank and they are slowly opening back up after their flat worm dosing.

Now, any other ideas? I really want to propagate zoas, but I want to make sure they don't carry bugs before offering them to others. I am really hoping that the coris wrasses will do their job. Here is a couple of pics with them doing their job.

Ok Lynn, let's see if I can post these pics

Re: Fighting Nudi

OHH They are pretty.

And since I wasn't awake enough for my usual directions this morning, here is how you do it.
Once the pic is loaded into your gallery click on the pic so it is the big one in the middle of the screen. Then scroll down a bit and you will see a button that says copy to clipboard. Click the button. Now the link is in your windows clipboard. Just go back to your post and paste. Wala your pic will be there.

Wish I could be of some help on the nudi problem but I have never had to deal with them. Hopefully others will have some good ideas.
BTW good title choice. You should get some attention to the thread anyway.

Re: Fighting Nudi

Thanks Lynn, I think I can post pics now. I am hoping this thread is looked at just so I can get other ideas. Please anyone who has solved the nudi problem let me know. I really love zoas, but nudis can take them out pretty fast.

Re: Fighting Nudi

I have not had to deal with the zoa eating nudis but I have always read that repeated FW dips is the way. You have to do repeated dips as the FW will not kill the eggs. Eggs are laid on the stalk of the zoanthid in a spiral shape and can be removed manually.

Seems like this is what you have been doing.
You just have to remain persistant with the FW dips
Good luck!

Re: Fighting Nudi

Goldenmean, I think you are right, I just hate keeping them in the QT tank for so long. After about 3 weeks, they begin to deteriorate; they lose color, gain algae, and begin to develop that white fungi.

Boomer, this is the second time I have done battle with the little buggers. I don't have a pic this time, but I can promise you that is what they are. I pulled off all the eggs that I could see, but I always wonder about those that may be on rocks that I missed. I will keep with the FWD.

Thanks guys.

That looks like a nasty! Can't you pick them out with a pair of tweezers. That one looks prime for the pickin'!

Re: Fighting Nudi

Congrats. It's easy once you know how. Woodstock had to tell me or I wouldn't have figured it out either. That's why I try to teach others. The old pass it on theory.
Before Boomer asks any chance of a pic from the top? He may know based on that pic but I am sure a pic from the top would help.

Re: Fighting Nudi

That was a pic from the first round a few months ago. I can't find any at the moment - hopefully, I don't and the dips worked. We shall see.........
