| Golden Moray ![]() | Coral of the Week- Ricordia This weeks coral of the week is Ricordias. They are fairly common in the trade and have some awesome colors! Lighting Requirements- These can take moderate to high lighting. If they have too much lighting or too little then they are known to just melt away. Waterflow- Ricordias don't like waterflow, they can take a light flow across them but nothing that is going to blow them around. Colors/Types- These guys come in many different colors and types: orange, blue, purple, red, yellows etc. There are Ricordia Florida and there is Ricordia Yuma. There is just a basic appearance difference between the two. Ricordia Yuma generally has a larger mouth and is bumpier. In my experience the Ricordia Yuma likes more light than the Ricordia Florida. Feeding- These corals are mostly photosynthetic but can take extra frozen foods and will benefit from this. Aggressive- They aren't that aggressive as they don't have sweeper tentacles, but anything they touch can be stung. After handling a ricordia it is recommended to wash your hands as the skin has some toxins on it. They are relatively hardy once in an established tank and in a good spot in the tank. Most of the time they will come to you in single polyps. 95% of these come from Florida where the rock is illegal to take so they take the ricordia off and ship it as a single polyp. Ricordia Florida- ![]() Ricordia Yuma- (these pictures are not mine) ![]() Feel free to post pictures of your ricordias and ask questions! Ask away! Matt |

| Frequent lurker ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Ricordia I have 5 Ricordia polyps. I believe they are Ricordia Florida. They are on a rock at the bottom of the tank, half-shaded. The ones that are under the rock seem to open much more than the ones that get more light. I have considered moving the entire rock into the shade, but have not done it yet. They eat mysis when I feed the tank. The ones that are open more tend to catch some of the shrimp that fall on them. I target feed sometimes, but not on a regular schedule. They all seem pretty healthy, and all of them look like they have two mouths. I am assuming that means they are getting ready to split. |

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Ricordia Thanks guys! My rics, the orange ones in the first pic, eat mysis shrimp when i feed the fish. Wonderloss I would probably say that the ones under the rock get bigger because they have to expand more to get light, the ones outside don't but are healthier as a result... Just my opinion... | Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Ricordia Here's mine If you feed them they will grow ! I had one orange Ric and fed it regularly and now I have about 12, at least the last time I counted. The blue and green one's have not been fed because it's impossible for me to reach them without removing the rock and have only 4 of them. Here's mine eating a good size piece of scallop. ![]()
