| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia I have some questions (dragging an older thread up) How often do I "target" feed my frogspawn? What do I target" feed my frogspawn? HOW do I target" feed my frogspawn? I've had mine now for maybe 6 weeks and have never seen it "eat" at all. I know it's a photosynthetic species but I also here so many people "feeding" them. I haven't noticed any "Sweeper Tentacles" at all so is this something to be concerned about? I have my moon lights on and spend considerable "viewing" at night. Mine actually withdraw almost fully into their shell shortly after the main tank lights go off and stay that will till the lights come back on in the morning. Are mine just "different"? Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Allen

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia Yours aren't different at all. I rarely see mine eat. The only thing I have seen them eat is Cyclops-eeze, that stuff is great for all fish and corals! I would recommend trying that! If you are going to target feed them with cyclops then just take some and put it over them, it breaks up real easy, let it float down to the frogspawn and then it should be able to get some! Yours is no different, mine go all the way in, the only species of euphyllia,of mine, that I have ever seen with sweepers is my torch. But i know the frogspawns will sting with just their normal tentacles! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them! Matt |

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia Heres a pic of my frogspawn: ![]() I have a good pic of my torch somewhere on my home computer, but I'm being a slacker at work right now. As for target feeding I wouldn't be too worried if yours doesn't eat anything. What I do, is when I'm feeding the tank, I will occasionally squirt some mysis on top of the frogspawn. Sometimes I see it eat, sometimes I don't. I wouldn't be too worried, they can survive and thrive perfectly without any target feeding.

Thanks! That's VERY comforting to know that it's normal! Here is sort of off-topic yet sort of on-topic question.... If a clown is "hosting" in a FrogSpawn, does this affect the nocturnal behavior of the FrogSpawn or is it ok with the clown that it's "host" withdraws at night!! ![]()

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia Well, I have heard stories of clowns killing the frogspawns by being too rough with them. If the frogspawn can get used to the clown fast enough it is fine. But realize that the clowns can also kill the frogspawn. Matt |

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia You may also start to notice black spots on the clown if he is hosting the frogspawn a lot. I started to really notice this on my clown and swore it was some sort of parasite until I noticed how much she was hosting things she shouldn't have been. lol. She won't come near the bta i put in there, but hosts just about everything else. Go figure...

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia My new clown took right to the FrogSpawn. I think he got "nipped" a couple of times and was leary but when the lights went off he was all up in it... it was withdrawn a little bit but seems to not be totally "against" the new little critter. | Tubeworm | Re: Coral of the Week- Euphyllia My branching: ![]() Good article, including the difference between ancora and fimbriata: Reefs.org: Where Reefkeeping Begins on the Internet - Sweeping Beauty Aquarium.Net Jan 97. Mine don't want accept the target feeding, and require at least slightly higher, than low light (higher, than neon-green candycane). Big (for 6g), better to be placed downflow from other corals, less tolerant to poor water quality, then the candycane, mentioned above ( my bottom-line reference coral, incredible one). All IMHE, of course ![]() |
