Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

Well I keep getting more and more Acros and SPS corals... Don't know why, but its my flavor for the moment But I know Acros love light and feed off of it.. I was wondering what some of you SPS keepers feed your tank.. I feed my fish mysis and some other things.. But my corals I feed cyclopeeze 2-3 times a week.. Are their anything else I could be feeding?

Thanks...

I feed the whole tank and I notice my acros and montis gaining more color.. I feed oyster eggs once a week, DTs twice a week, cyclopeeze once a week as well as homemade mush that is very well blended its almost like a chocolate milk when I thaw it out.(yummy).. all corals seem to love it.. I feed the mush twice a week..

Re: Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

i soak the fish food in selcon once sometime twice a week. cyclopeeze once a week, but this is more certain fish than corals. once a month or so i get fresh squid, muscle, scalops and such and use some of juices to feed the dorals. that really makes all the coral and inverts go crazy.

In addition to the above mentioned I feed my tank (SPS's included) about a cup of green water a week. More importantly I believe are calcium and alk parameters as well as lighting and temp.

can you post a full tank shot? I would like to see a 200g tank under t5's. I have been more and more interested in t5’s lately

your equipment list is very impressive as well, you must have a nice reef

Re: Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

JaxReef, you talking to me? I think there are some shots of it (a while ago) in my gallery. Recently (about a month or two now) I had a major issue (chalk it up to lesson learned), circuit breaker tripped, return pumps stopped, siphon occurred, tank drained down 10 inches, tank tamp rose to 92 degrees, etc.... I am slowly recovering from that. I have since replaced the sump (larger), fixed the plumbing issue (no more siphon), but am still battling a major algae outbreak (lots of different kinds) so the tank is in recovery so not as impressive as it once was. But I will take some more pictures tonight and post them for you all.

T5s are an awesome light Jax... But I personally just don't feel like they have the pop of a Metal Halide... I love them for my actinics though over the old PCs..

Billy couldn't agree with you more... IMO and after 18 months using T5's I'm going to go to MH, I just don't think my corals are as colorful as they once where.

Re: Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

maybe it has to do with the size of the tank? I have seen a 55g tank with the tek t-5 light have the same results as my reef

dave if you go MH check out PFO lighting, great stuff

Re: Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

yea Jax I think it has to do with the depth... Mhs can just go right through the water with no problems... T5s seems to fade out past 15" or so....

Re: Topic of the Week 10/30 - SPS Feeding

humm i dont know maybe its because i use 6x80watt T5's on icecap ballast and my tank is 20" tall. but i have been getting great color and growth even at the bottom. i had to cut back the lighting some what(changed up some bulbs) because it was an over kill. are you guys using the 54watters? or have you tried the 80watters?
