| Scopas Tang | Re: Topic of the Week September 11 - Aquascaping w/ Live Rock Tips? Let see... Well, the #1 tip I can give is having lots of patience. I have very little BUT, my gf Diana has a good amount, especially when it comes to arranging LR. Oh, and a good eye helps to. Similar to aquascaping planted tanks, the rule of thirds places somewhat of a role when arranging LR. So having some area that draws the eye, preferably NOT in the center of the tank. The shape of the structure is an important factor. Just having a wall of rock can work but in terms of providing overhangs and caverns and passageways for the fish and inverts to hang out in and go through, a solid wall does very little. When we scape out LR, we tend to decide on an overall shape we are striving for. In other words, do we want a horseshoe shape to the entire structure or do we want more of a straight structure. Then we decide on how many 'piles' to make. Is it just one continous pile or several not connected to oneanother. Also, an important decision IMO is how many passageways to create and where to place them. The shape of the rock ultimately dictates what you can do with it, but having a basic plan of attack helps....oh, and patience. ![]() Our 2 cents ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Plate Coral | Re: Topic of the Week September 11 - Aquascaping w/ Live Rock I have a 45 gal tank where I used a lot of curved rocks to form a series of 6 arches (3 on the bottom, 2 on top). I really like the appearance of this, and the fish love swimming through all the caves exposed in this formation; however, I'm finding it very difficult to get my corals to stay. It seems anytime one of my shrimp bump one, it tumbles! Does anyone have any ideas for how to get the corals to be more stable without having anything unsitely in the tank?

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Topic of the Week September 11 - Aquascaping w/ Live Rock Super glue gell work great for most corals or better yet if the coral is on a small rock you can glue it to the bigger rock. I wouldn't trust it for the structure of the scape but to hold a coral in place it works great.

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Topic of the Week September 11 - Aquascaping w/ Live Rock If you have SPS frags you can drill the rock to place the plugs or use reefsafe epoxy otherwise this will be a recurring problem. I like the glue for attaching frags to rock but find the epoxy give a better hold for larger corals.

| Serpent Star | Re: Topic of the Week September 11 - Aquascaping w/ Live Rock I know this thread is old. But since i have to take down my tank to move. and i will have to re aquaspace. I would like some ideas from everyone on what i should do. This is my weakest part of this hobby i hate aquascaping. I have Marshall, and Kaelini rock. I am looking to get alot of caves and ledges to place my corals.... here is a photo of the rock i have. I have 4 big pieces and the rest is medium sized..... ![]() ![]() ![]() It just looks like the dreaded wall scape to me. and i dont like the look of a wall....
