refugium??

Im gathering a refugium if used to grow algae in,right?Why grow algae and how?Also a physical explanation of a refu?

A Refugium is a nursery or isolation area for aquatic life a well as providing an environment to grow copepods and amphipods in the proper conditions. It also serves as a growing area for macroalgae that helps reduce nuisance algae growth in your main water column. I keep live rock, live sand and cylurpa (sp) in my refugium, my Manderin loves the pods that enter the main tank via the refugium. I recomend one for a reef tank. Hope this helps??

Use the search option in the header bar for refugiums. Theres lots of talk about them because they do so much for your main tank. The macro use/lower/ fed off of nitrates. The trick is to slow the flow rate thru it when in a sump that flowing more for the main tank.
